QUARTERLY REPORT – LIDAR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Location: Windhoek, Namibia
Project Title: Expanding Access & Building Capacity for Young Mothers
Reporting Period: Quarter 1 – 2026
Report Date: February 2026
Summary of Activities This Quarter
During Quarter 1 of 2026, Lidar Community Foundation strengthened economic empowerment opportunities for young mothers in Windhoek through practical vocational and entrepreneurship training. We provided Business Skills Training to 30 young mothers and Baking Skills Training to 20 young mothers at our community centre in Katutura. The business training focused on financial literacy, budgeting, pricing, record keeping, customer service, and small business management, while the baking training covered food hygiene, product preparation, costing, packaging, and market readiness. These sessions equipped participants with the skills needed to generate income and improve financial stability within their households.
Highlights
A major highlight this quarter was the formation of a structured income-generating savings group. After completing the training, the women organized themselves, opened a group savings account, and began collectively producing and selling baked goods within their community. They established clear financial goals, including long-term housing security, biannual bulk procurement of essential household items, and annual educational support for their children. In just three weeks, the group saved NAD 3,000, demonstrating strong financial discipline, teamwork, and commitment to long-term planning.
Testimonial
One young mother shared, “Before the training, I did not know how to manage money or plan for the future. Now we are saving together and working toward better housing and education for our children.” This shift from vulnerability to collective action reflects the core mission of this project — restoring hope by building practical skills, confidence, and sustainable income pathways.
Challenges
While the women still face challenges such as limited start-up capital and constrained market access, we continue to provide mentorship and guidance to strengthen sustainability. In the coming quarter, we will support formal group development, explore SME registration pathways, and assist with product branding and market expansion. Your continued support makes this transformation possible and helps young mothers in Windhoek build independence and a more secure future for their families.
