Burundi is signatory of many regional and international instruments on the women's rights and gender equality. However, despite the existence of all these instruments, the Burundian woman and girl do not fully enjoy their rights. Their status is still much lower than that of the husband/boy at all points of view. Those instruments had not been exploited in order to set up a favorable space environment promoting those they are supposed to promote (women and girls).
