"Rethink Refill" is our highschool education program that since 2019 has been impacting hundreds of students all around Chile, by teaching them the 7Rs of the circular economy as a solution to the growing plastic pollution crisis. Through interactive education and hands-on action, students lead change in their communities, reduce plastic waste, and inspire others to join the movement for a sustainable, plastic-free future.
Every year, millions of plastic bottles end up in landfills and oceans, affecting biodiversity and human health. In many underserved communities, access to water is limited because of draught and failing infrastructure, which increases the consumption of disposable plastic bottles and unhealthy beverages. Without environmental education and practical solutions, young people do not have the tools they need to combat this global crisis which impacts their local community.
Rethink Refill takes a comprehensive approach to tackling plastic pollution through education, action, and empowerment. We teach students about the plastic life cycle and the 7Rs of the circular economy and providing reusable bottles. Schools can sustain the program by selling bottles as a fundraising tool, fostering social entrepreneurship. Students can track their impact, inspiring others to join the movement for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
With your support, Rethink Refill will be able to expand to at least 15 schools in the capital, coastal and island communities in Chile, with a total reach of around 1800 students. We hope to achieve the following: Reduction of plastic waste in schools and communities. Education and access to clean water for students in underserved areas. Youth empowerment through environmental education and community action. A sustainable model where schools can continue the program autonomously.
