Project Report | Apr 6, 2024
Homecoming Harvest

By Denny Chou | Supervisor, International Mktg Resource Centre

Dear supporters,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to update you on the progress of our project, "Returning Home | Sustainable Indigenous Livelihoods," which has been making significant strides thanks to your generous support. This letter aims to provide you with a concise overview of our achievements, future goals, and a touching story that embodies the essence of our mission.

Achievements to Date

In our journey towards empowering Indigenous people in Taiwan to rebuild sustainable livelihoods in their home communities, we've made considerable progress. Over the past year, we've embarked on an ambitious project aimed at strengthening families and communities through training in natural farming and business development. Our efforts have started to bear fruit, enabling individuals to create jobs and generate income within their communities, thereby reducing economic hardship and social issues while also preventing cultural loss.

Looking Forward: 2024 and Beyond

As we move into 2024, our goal remains clear: to further empower Indigenous individuals of all ages in Taiwan to return to their ancestral lands and develop sustainable livelihoods. We plan to expand our reach to more communities, focusing on locations such as the Lidao and Mahavun Tribes, among others. Our project is designed to benefit adult and youth farmers, economically disadvantaged households, and particularly grandparent-led families. Through our comprehensive implementation plan, which includes egg and feed production, infrastructure development, and livelihood support, we aim to create a lasting impact on the beneficiaries and the broader community.

Case Story: The Journey of Farmer Hong

"Despite the hardships, I yearn for my children to see the opportunity to return home!" This sentiment encapsulates the spirit of Hong, a 49-year-old resident of the Mahavun tribe, who turned to natural farming techniques to protect her family's health. Hong's greatest wish is for her children to live and work in their tribal community, away from the instability of city life. Her story is one of resilience and hope, bolstered by the support from MSM, which provided her with the knowledge and means to pursue poultry farming sustainably. Hong's dedication not only promises a stable livelihood for her family but also preserves the cultural and environmental ethos of her community.

The experiences of individuals such as Hong underscore the profound impact your generosity has on fostering positive transformations. We encourage you to continue walking this path of transformation with us. Your ongoing support is vital for the advancement of our projects and for enhancing the quality of life within the communities we cherish.
