This project will train 50 disabled girls in rural Northern Nigeria to make reusable sanitary pads using low-cost materials. These girls face barriers to hygiene, school, and health due to poverty and disability. Over five days, they'll learn pad-making, sewing, hygiene, and business basics. After the training, each will get a full kit and a small grant to start a pad-making business, helping them earn income and support their daily needs.
Disabled girls in rural and poor parts of Northern Nigeria struggle to manage their periods. They lack pads, privacy, and safe toilets. Many miss school or stay isolated during menstruation. With no income and limited family support, they also lack the means to buy tools like crutches or pay for basic health needs.
The project will train the girls to make reusable sanitary pads using low-cost materials. It will also provide them with starter kits and small grants to begin making and selling pads. These activities can help them earn income, gain confidence, and become more independent.
With the training and small business support, the girls can manage their periods with dignity and earn income by supplying local schools or other girls. The money earned can help them pay for mobility tools, school fees, or medicine. As they gain experience, some girls may become self-reliant and teach others the same skills, reaching even more girls in nearby communities.
