The Axenon Ikanwe (We Learn Together) radio program finished up 2018 with lots of motivation to carry on into 2019. The NGO Shipibo Joi, based out of the United States has committed to providing all our core funding to help ensure that Axenon Ikanwe remain independent and commercial free.
Inin Yoi-Janis Cruz, and his wife Metsa Jisbe-Ketty Gonzales de Cruz are very excited to explore new topics that are important to the Shipibo-Konibo Nation and develop new elements to the radio program.
Our success through 2018 has also helped create a strong Alliance with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture who will be participating in a workshop later this month at the offices of ARIAP and Alianza Arkana. The goal of this workshop is to train our Language Revitalization Team in the use of a unique Endangered Language Dicationary Application that was developed by the Ministry of Culture.
We continue to digitize the entire old Shipibo-Konibo dictionary, page by page, into a custom spreadsheet format that will eventurally be transfered into a dictionary creation application where it can be revised and expanded. We are very excited about this opportunity to test out the Ministry of Culture's very own program!
Continued funding is still needed to carry Axenon Ikanwe to new heights and also support other langauge revitalization activities, like the revised Shipibo-Konibo dictionary. Thank you to all who have collaborated and supported us to this point. The collective consciousness about language loss and the importance of the lanague has been raised, providing a solid base to continue our work through 2019!
Icha bires irake!
Many thanks,
Inin Yoi, Metsa Jisbe, Ranin Koshi, Wexanita
