The year began with a lot of hope from the Áxenon Ikánwe radio program and their team of dedicated hosts!
From the outbreak of the world pandemic, Áxenon Ikánwe has been sharing vital information about breaking news so the 150+ communities of the Shipibo-Konibo can make informed decisions about protecting their populations.
The Áxenon Ikánwe team has also partnered with the Regional Ministry of Health to record an informative video that was shared on social media and local television stations.
A State of Emergency was declared in Peru at the end of March that has been extended until at least mid May. Even though the Áxenon Ikánwe hosts have been unable to go to the radio studio, they have never missed a night of the program as they broadcast from home on Facebook Live with the audio patched into the radio station.
Furthermore, their program, from 8-9pm has increased its listeners during the pandemic and they now continue the Facebook Live stream for an additional hour until 10pm!
Regardless of all the challenges, Áxenon Ikánwe continues to strengthen the language while educating and empowering the Shipibo-Konibo Nation!
Please consider supporting the Áxenon Ikánwe team during this moment in time where access to information is more crucial than ever before. We Learn Together! Áxenon Ikánwe!
