REPORT OF APPRECIATION FROM "AXENON IKANWE"

By Janes Percy Cruz Laulate | Director of the Radio Program "Axenon Ikanwe"

Dear friends, through this document we want to express all our gratitude for the support and endorsement that we have had from you during all this time and the confidence that you have in our work, for which is detailed in the following:

Our great challenge

The Shipibo People of the Peruvian Amazon for many years have suffered from the stigma, discrimination and continuous marginalization of another group called Western culture, today they continue the prejudices towards us and we experience fear, shame, impotence when we speak our language, which is our weapon. and main source to continue keeping us alive as a culture. In the current context we visualize specific areas or places to demonstrate, speak and feel free to speak in our mother tongue, it can be our home, school, places of family or friends gathering, but not in other places where the other culture predominates. The new generations of Shipibo face new challenges and immense challenges, especially social pressure from their heritage and their cultural identity as Shipibo.

Our solution Proposal

For these motives and reasons the idea arises of putting out a radio program in order to claim and strengthen the identity of the people and Shipibo of the communities and of the large cities where in recent times the Shipibo have largely migrated in search of new spaces and opportunities for studies and work for a decent life.

"Axenon Ikanwe" has shown since the beginning of the program a space for participation and listening for all Shipibo in the Amazon and the large cities of Peru where they now reside, thanks to technology today they can connect from Monday to Friday from from 8 to 9 at night Peruvian time on Facebook live of the radio company and connect live and direct being always direct participants from their comments or reactions to the program as well as sharing among friends, acquaintances from their platforms and staying as a reproduction store when they want to see and hear it again. Daily we have a little more than 100 connected and approximately 300 more reproductions in just one hour.

The Radial program "Axenon Ikanwe" definitely already has a very significant reach since its inception and now that we are already three years on the air with much more reach through radio waves, via FM modulated frequency, telephone calls and now by the Facebook live digital platform.

With this audience and scope that we have, we are definitely strengthening the identity of our peoples, the practice of our language and thus also strengthening Intercultural Bilingual Education, as well as ancestral traditions from a more current context according to the reality of recent times in the society.

Our goal and objective

Through the Radial program "Axenon Ikanwe", our objective is to strengthen the practice and use of our language as Shipibos and the practice of good living or the good communal life between Shipibos and society, for this we will use the radio as an instrument and a means of transmitting information and creating spaces for dialogue and discussion with issues related to the interest of native communities such as intercultural health, bilingual intercultural education, gender equality and participation, coexistence and family structure within the community. Axenon Ikanwe also creates many public spaces for the practice of the mother tongue such as the union of generational groups and interpersonal relationships between all from a social and cultural scope, all this will allow to work and live in a much more united and strengthened way from the framework of a culture of peace with tools that allow new young people to have instruments of work and cultural practice.
