Dear Friends and Partners,

We keep appreciating you for the great work you are doing in giving children a chance to be able to read and write. Hear what Audrey has to say in this update,

"My name is Audrey*, 14 years old. I stay in Matererini flats in Mbare with my mother and 3 siblings. My father died 5 years ago and my mother is chronically ill. I dropped out of school in 2015 due to failure to pay school fees as my mother could not afford to fend for us all. Dropping out of school was the most hurtful situation I ever experienced. I woke up early every morning and glanced through the window to see my age mates going to school whilst I stayed home knowing that I am supposed to be in school.

Chiedza Child Care Centre’s Community Care Workers passed through my compound one day as they were conducting a follow up visit in my community to one of their beneficiaries. Upon their visit my mother had a chance to ask them about their services and joyfully they spoke to her. In telling her about services Chiedza offer, educational assistance was mentioned and how they categorise and select children to be assisted. Luckily I was referred to Chiedza Child Care Centre were I met the child protection officer who later referred me to the education department.

I am now in Out of School Study Group  level 3 and excelling in all my studies. I had difficulties in reading and writing, but ever since I started attending lessons at Chiedza I have improved. I am doing very well in my favourite subjects which are Math and General Paper. At the beginning of every term I receive stationery free of charge and when my uniform is no longer in a good state, Chiedza provide me with a new uniform. My family struggled a lot to cater for my educational need but all have changed ever since I started receiving assistance from Chiedza through it’s Out Of School Study Group.

I am looking forward to be re-integrated into formal school through Chiedza’s transition program in 2018. With supportive teachers at the centre I believe I will make it and assist my siblings in the future. Chiedza through its resource centre, have exposed me to the importance of technology and internet as I am now computer literate. I would like to express my profound gratitude to Chiedza team and partners for reviving my lost hope through second chance education".

Kindly keep inviting your friends and networks to support our cause and send more children like Audrey to school. The funds will be used to buy uniforms, pay school fees, buy stationery, pay volunteer stipends, furniture and food.
