Second chance education for orphans in Mbare

Dear Partners and Friends,

We have been quiet for some time-something great was cooking!

We have been busy since January with the construction of a new classroom block. It is now completed; ready for use. Some of you would recall in 2013 when we were running the "Build a classroom block campaign" which was part of this project. Your efforts finally yielded the results. We took long to feedback since we were pulling the resources together but we had not forgotten to share with you the good news.

We are in the process of building 2 classrooms for our second chance education pupils. This year we have 103 children attending classes getting prepared for the formal education. These are children who would have dropped out of school due to poverty and other social challenges. We take them and assist through community based study group learning. When they are ready we send them to the formal school to join their peers. We will then provide educational support. For the planned 2 classrooms, one is already finished and the other one still under construction.

Esther * one of the pupils could not hide her joy " I never dreamt of learning in a proper classroom, I thought I would spent all my time here learning under a tree". The teachers, staff members, board members and parents are all excited about the project. Thank you a million times!

We still need your support for school fees, furniture for the classes, food for the children, uniforms and stipends for the volunteers. We are proud of your unwavering support over the years.
