Creating a safe space to play football

By Eduardo Yodar Jimenez | Deputy Coordinator

From the first training session to the last, the Street Soccer Barcelona (SSB) work methodology has been followed in the open sessions.

Through cooperative games and individual and group exercises, these two-hour sessions are also, from the moment you arrive at the facilities, safe spaces for everyone and where joy, solidarity and respect prevail in sports practice.

The choice of games and exercises seeks to promote a series of fundamental values that contribute to individual and collective development. Specifically, it seeks to promote the following values:

Teamwork: Collaboration and working together towards common goals. The activities that were developed are aimed at helping participants learn to work as a team, to respect the skills and contributions of others, and to understand that success depends on cooperation.

Respect: Sports practice promotes respect for teammates, coaches, referees and opponents. This value is essential to create an inclusive environment where individual differences are recognized and valued.

Diversity: By working and competing with people of different cultures, backgrounds and abilities, participants learn to appreciate and respect differences.

Self-esteem and confidence: Participation in the sports activities developed during the project contribute to the development of self-esteem and self-confidence. Overcoming challenges and receiving support from others has a positive impact on people's perception of themselves.

Also for this reason, the attitude with which both socio-sports educators and volunteers carry out the sessions is also considered essential, squeezing positive reinforcement to encourage an increase in the esteem of young people.

The objective of the SSB sessions, beyond promoting sports practice and football development (technical, tactical or physical preparation) of young people, is to improve the physical and mental health of young people in vulnereable situation.
