Playing for change
Football that transforms. Football that connects.
GlobalGiving(Rapport 62877)
Street Soccer Barcelona (SSB)
We are a non-profit entity that uses football as a tool for inclusion, youth empowerment
and social cohesion. Since 2018, we have been working to transform lives through sport,
especially with young people in vulnerable situations: people who have migrated, are
refugees, are homeless or at risk of social exclusion.
With an approach based on equality, respect and non-discrimination, we promote safe and
diverse spaces where young people can build positive relationships, gain confidence and
access training, work and personal opportunities. Sport, for us, is a gateway to the city and
a real cohesion tool.
Through tournaments, training, community activities and training programs, football
becomes a space for meeting, intercultural dialogue and social transformation.
Project:
Right to sport: Homelessness&Refugees (62877) for the inclusion of young people at risk of
social exclusion in the city of Barcelona - Street Soccer Barcelona (SSB)
Context:
The project is aimed at young people at risk of social exclusion living in shelters in
Barcelona or living on the streets. These young people come to our activities from the
social entities that support them or from the social services of the Barcelona City Council.
In this sense, we work together with the professionals who support them.
At SSB we have the experience that being able to meet to play sports, to play what for
many is their favorite sport, soccer, has many benefits, both individually and collectively. It
improves their mental health, due to the sport itself and through socializing with other
people with whom they share reality. It also increases their self-esteem, accompanied by a
team of professionals who know the importance of positive reinforcement.
During the year 2024, a total of 243 young people have attended SSB training sessions. A
regular group of 40 young people has been maintained week after week.
Budget:
As regards material costs, the grants are intended to cover the rental of the field, as well as
the purchase of footballs, clothing and sports shoes. In terms of human resources, the
work of the coach who organizes and develops the weekly training sessions has been
covered, as well as part of the work carried out by the entity's coordinator. Including the
monitoring of each of the young users, in coordination with the social entities that refer to
these young people.
