This quarter, the Bahamas Resilience Center continued to strengthen community wellbeing by creating safe, engaging spaces where individuals and families can connect, heal, and grow together. Through a diverse range of wellness, educational, and social programs, we remain committed to building resilience in the aftermath of ongoing environmental and social challenges.
Community Engagement & Skill-Building
Our ongoing activities continue to provide meaningful opportunities for connection and personal development. Programs such as knitting and crocheting, sewing for children, art workshops, chess, ballroom dancing, and our Sister Circle offer participants a chance to learn new skills while fostering a sense of belonging.
We believe resilience grows when communities come together. These initiatives are intentionally designed to create supportive environments where individuals can build friendships, share experiences, and strengthen their emotional wellbeing.
Men’s Support Initiative: Man 2 Man
This quarter also marked the relaunch of our Man 2 Man group, held every Monday at 7:00 PM. This initiative provides a judgment-free space for men of all ages to engage in honest conversations about life’s challenges and successes.
The group encourages:
Participants are welcomed whether they wish to share, listen, or simply connect. Light refreshments are provided, further creating a relaxed and inviting environment.
Youth Kindness & Community Giving
On March 23, we were deeply moved by a generous act of kindness from two primary school students, Sophia Marianna Porceddu and Maddison Grace Johnson of Lucayan International School.
As part of their project, “The Art of Wellbeing,” they created and sold bracelets and pins, donating all proceeds to the Center. Their compassion and initiative serve as a powerful reminder of the role young people play in shaping a caring and resilient community.
We are incredibly grateful for their thoughtful contribution, which not only supports our work but also inspires hope and generosity across our network.
Literacy Engagement: Easter Reading Event
On April 1, 2026, we hosted a vibrant community literacy event designed to foster a love of reading among children .
This free event provided a joyful and engaging learning experience through:
By combining literacy with fun and interactive elements, we created an environment where children could build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and develop a lasting appreciation for books. Families also had the opportunity to connect in a supportive and uplifting setting.
Pajama Reading Party Success
On March 13, our Pajama Reading Party brought together children, families, and volunteers for an evening centered on storytelling and imagination.
We extend special thanks to Aunty Levette, our guest reader, whose engaging storytelling brought the experience to life. We are also grateful to our volunteers and donors whose support made this event possible.
These initiatives continue to play a critical role in nurturing confident readers and encouraging lifelong learning.
Project Context & Impact
The work of the Bahamas Resilience Center remains vital in a community still recovering from the compounded effects of Hurricane Dorian and the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families continue to face emotional, social, and economic challenges.
Through our programs, we provide:
Our initiatives serve as a bridge to more specialized care where needed, while also equipping individuals with practical coping strategies to navigate ongoing and future challenges.
Looking Ahead
With continued support, we aim to expand our reach and deepen our impact across Grand Bahama and beyond. Each program, partnership, and act of community engagement contributes to a stronger, more resilient society.
We are grateful to our donors and partners who make this work possible. Together, we are not only responding to challenges but building a foundation for long-term wellbeing and resilience.
