The Grand Bahama Resilience Center (GBRC) remains steadfast in its mission to empower and uplift the community through various programs and initiatives.
The GBRC continues to offer a range of programs catering to diverse age groups and interests, including chess, arts and crafts, storytelling, knitting and crocheting, couples ballroom dancing, and low-impact exercise for seniors. These activities serve as vital avenues for community engagement and enrichment, made possible by dedicated volunteers.
On February 12th, 2024, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Grand Bahama, the GBRC continued the Let's Rise Against Bullying campaign targeting 7th to 9th graders at Jack Hayward Junior High School. Through insightful discussions led by Mrs. McBride, the campaign aimed to foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and positive self-perception among youth.
On February 14th, 2024, the GBRC expresses heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Troy Clarke, President & CEO of The National LEAD Institute, for the donation of nine computers and a lectern. This generous contribution will significantly enhance the center's programs, enabling the introduction of senior computer literacy classes and enriching afterschool activities for children.
On February 15th, the center launched an Acting Workshop led by Matthew Manfredo, receiving an enthusiastic response from participants. Additionally, partnerships with institutions such as Western Atlantic University facilitated initiatives like the Know Your Lemons breast cancer awareness campaign and a Stop the Bleed workshop, furthering health education within the community.
On March 6th, 2024, the GBRC's Career Counseling Program was relaunched with a compelling discussion led by Nikita Mullings, COO of the Grand Bahama Power Company and Environmental Specialists. Participants gained valuable insights into career paths, education choices, and workforce preparation, inspiring them to strive for excellence in their future endeavors.
On March 13th, 2024, the Grand Bahama Resilience Center partnered with the Bahamas Social Workers Association to host "Eye on Social Work," a panel discussion featuring esteemed social workers, including Mrs. McBride. The event, held in celebration of Social Workers Month, provided a platform for candid conversations about the profession's challenges, triumphs, and future directions. Panelists shared personal experiences, insights, and best practices, offering invaluable perspectives on navigating the complexities of social work in contemporary society. Mrs. McBride and her fellow panelists emphasized the importance of empathy, resilience, and advocacy in effecting positive change within communities. The discussion sparked meaningful dialogue, fostered connections, and reaffirmed the vital role of social workers as catalysts for social justice and equity.
March 20th through March 21st, 2024, Mrs. McBride, representing the Grand Bahama Resilience Center, traveled to Turks & Caicos as the keynote speaker for their Social Work Conference 2024. Under the theme "Empowering Social Workers: Inspiring Action, Leading Change," Mrs. McBride delivered a powerful message to all the dedicated social workers present. She emphasized their pivotal role as educated change-makers, tirelessly working behind the scenes to bring about transformative impact within their communities. Drawing from her wealth of experience, Mrs. McBride shared insights and anecdotes, inspiring attendees to remain steadfast in their commitment to social work. The conference provided a platform for meaningful exchange, networking, and collective empowerment, further strengthening the bonds of solidarity among social work professionals across the region.
On March 22nd, 2024, a significant milestone was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony, symbolizing the GBRC's expansion efforts. Generous donations from the Grand Bahama Port Authority and the TX Foundation will facilitate the renovation of a donated building, enabling the center to further its impact on the community.
The Grand Bahama Resilience Center continues to be a beacon of hope and positive change in the community, thanks to the dedication of its volunteers, the support of generous donors, and strategic partnerships with various organizations. As it expands its programs and facilities, the center remains committed to empowering individuals of all ages and fostering a resilient community.
