Kicking off our 2025 STEM programme for rural youth

Dear friends,

On the first Saturday of February, we opened the doors to our 40 incoming scholarship students for 2025!

Our scholarship programme is the basis of what we do as an organization, ensuring that high-potential young people from low-income backgrounds in rural areas can access high school and post-secondary education, while supporting them in becoming young leaders in their communities. This year our scholars range from 12 to 23 years of age, from 7th grade through to university, and 70% are girls and young women!

To kick off our new year of programme activities, we then held a “Programmes Fair” on February 15th, with all of our scholars and many new and returning volunteers. Our hands-on STEM programme continues to be one of the most sought after programes we run, as it is the only space in the municipality where low-income youth can have access to STEM education free of charge.

This year, under the leadership of two university students – Javier and Andrea – our Saturday STEM programme for youth aged 11+ will be expanding to include robotics within the Saturday sessions, and our Thursday and Friday classes for primary school students will include mobile STEM labs to run sessions in rural villages where children don’t have the resources to travel into town to receive classes. Our STEM programme is designed to be implemented in low-resource settings, and to leverage youth leadership as a powerful tool.

We can’t wait to share more updates as our 2025 STEM programme kicks off!

Thank you, as always, for making this work possible.

Best wishes,

Natalia
