Dear educate. community,
Over the course of 2025, we have continued to strengthen our STEM programme at the educate. Youth Centre, an initiative that guarantees equitable access to technology and promotes 21st-century skills among children and youth in rural communities of Trinidad, Santa Bárbara. Our commitment is to reduce the digital divide and support children and youth in developing technological skills that will allow them to access new educational and employment opportunities.
Our level 1 programme has continued to promote early learning of technological tools through a playful, inclusive, and practical approach. 66 children successfully completed the primary years programme this year – the largest number ever! They learned the basic use of fundamental tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, developing skills that strengthen their digital literacy and open doors to more advanced learning.
Our level 2 programme works with high school students. At this level, we aim not only to close the digital divide and strengthen rural youth's confidence in their abilities, but also to prepare them for a future with greater opportunities for education, employment, and community leadership. This year, 28 young people have participate in this year-long programme, receiving training in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as practical robotics and programming workshops.
A particularly significant achievement in 2025 was that the young people who participated the previous year became facilitators and led the robotics camp again, this time incorporated as part of the Youth Centre's Saturday technology program. Thanks to this initiative, the young people were able to create functional prototypes such as hydraulic arms, robotic arms, and electric cars. During the process, they analysed how these technological tools facilitate production processes and discussed how technology can contribute to peacebuilding through practical and creative solutions to challenges such as water and electricity management.
Our STEM programme continues to be one of our most popular in Trinidad, and the only programme of its kind in this rural area. We can’t wait to take it to new heights in 2026! Thank you for your support in making this work possible.
With gratitude,
Natalia Anariba
