Safe and Dry: How Roof Repairs Improved Our School

Salariin Kampuchea provides a range of diverse opportunities to children in the community to improve their future prospects. These include English and Chinese language skills, ICT skills, access to reading, goal setting, job orientation, basic hygiene, and math skills. In addition to these programs and activities, we also work to improve the infrastructure of our learning center. For example, over the past three months, we have repaired the roofs of our school, playground, and kitchen. Please read on to learn more about the positive impact of these roof repairs.

Combined Roof Repair and Compound Protection for School, Kitchen, and Toilet

Students now enjoy a better learning environment in their English and Chinese classes. In the past, leaking roofs in the classrooms and canopy made it difficult for them to sit and concentrate during lessons when it rained. Additionally, the roofs in the kitchen and toilets were damaged, causing stored materials to get wet and making it uncomfortable to access the toilets during rain. However, after repairing and renovating the roofs, our students, teachers, and staff can now access these areas comfortably and safely, regardless of the weather.

The playground’s roof fixed avoids wet toys and safe play

Repairing the playground roof has made a significant difference in creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for children. Previously, rainwater would leak through the damaged roof, leaving toys and play equipment wet and slippery—posing risks for both hygiene and safety. As a result, children could not fully enjoy their playtime, especially during the rainy season. Now, with the roof repaired, the toys and equipment remain dry and in good condition. Children can play safely and comfortably in all weather, supporting their physical development, social interaction, and overall well-being.

In the next three months, we are going to continue our fundraising on GlobalGiving website and platform for July bonus day to meet our fund goal for our project “roof keeps us dry during the rainy season.”

We would like to thank everyone, friends and partners, who have supported us so far through GlobalGiving with your hard-earned money. With your help, we hope to continue and build upon the success of our non-formal education program.

We wish you every success and happiness, and enjoy it with your family and friends!

 Warmest regards,

The Salariin Kampuchea Team
