Challenge

LIWEN will enhance the rights of 500 women and girls in leadership participation, decision making including improved food and nutrition security, and better rural livelihoods in 4 counties of Liberia; training them with skills to pursue food security and livelihoods. With available and equal resources, HIV affected women and girls could contribute much more through agriculture. This could reduce the number of undernourished HIV affected women and girls through that nutrition and livelihood.

Solution

Hold stakeholders dialogue meeting with traditional leaders to negotiate farm space for beneficiaries. LIWEN mobilizes and train 500 HIV affected women and girls in rural Liberia with agricultural skills in nutrition and livelihoods at household level. Farming tools including hoes, cutlasses and seedings will be provided to selected beneficiaries. Establish women farm support group in each project county where experience and story can be shared to encourage one another into agriculture.

Long-Term Impact

This project when funded, will train 300 women and 200 girls with relevant skills in agriculture productivity that will give them nutrition and livelihoods at their household levels. HIV affected women and girls will command respect in their communities through food security and livelihoods. Stigma and discrimination will be minimized. They will have the space at their community level to make decision.
