Save 1 Million Lives -A Project for Organ Donation

Rwanda is one of the countries where transplantation is not yet available as a treatment option. Patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease rely exclusively on dialysis, which is costly, difficult to access and cannot provide the improved survival and quality of life that transplantation offers. GlobalGiving highlights that 10 to 16 percent of the adult population in Rwanda may be affected by chronic kidney disease.
The “Rwanda – Save 1 Million Lives” initiative focuses on building the country’s capacity through the training of one Rwandan healthcare professional. The programme includes DTI’s TPM training and a two-week internship in a Spanish transplant centre. This experience exposes participants to hospital donation organisation, donor evaluation, brain-death protocols, and the ethical foundations of transplantation.
Upon returning to Rwanda, the trained professional can contribute to:
• establishing the foundations for future national donation activity
• preparing hospitals to identify potential donors
• training other healthcare teams
• promoting awareness at institutional and community level
Your support becomes the first step toward enabling transplantation in Rwanda. By donating, you help move the country closer to offering life-saving transplants to patients who currently have no access to this treatment.

Advancing Organ and Tissue Donation in Rwanda to Save Lives
Report:
Over the past months, DTI Foundation has continued to work in the Rwanda region to promote organ and tissue donation and transplantation as a way to save and improve lives.
Through our collaboration with local healthcare professionals, institutions, and community stakeholders, we have shared knowledge, built awareness, and fostered systems that enable more people in need to receive a life-saving transplant.
This work is directly aligned with DTI Foundation’s mission: to save as many lives as possible worldwide by advancing organ and tissue donation and transplantation practices.
We remain committed to supportin Rwanda in strengthening its donation and transplant capacity, and to contributing to the long-term goal of saving 1 million lives globally.
With gratitude,

Dear Donors,
We are excited to update you on the progress of the Save 1 Million Lives campaign, made possible by your generous support through GlobalGiving. Thanks to your contributions, we have been able to expand our reach and significantly enhance our efforts to educate healthcare professionals and raise awareness about the critical importance of organ donation and transplantation.
Recent Activities: Since the launch of our campaign, we have successfully organized workshops and training sessions for healthcare professionals in over 113 countries. These sessions have focused on improving the knowledge and practices surrounding organ donation and transplantation, ensuring that healthcare professionals are better equipped to save lives. Our workshops have brought together experts from around the world, fostering the exchange of valuable knowledge and promoting best practices in the field.
Direct Impact: So far, we have trained over 30,000 healthcare professionals who are now better equipped to manage organ donation and transplantation processes. This has already had a direct impact on over 30,000 patients, ensuring that more people in need of transplants are given a greater chance at life. Your support has enabled us to expand our educational programs and save lives on a global scale.
Testimonial: One particularly moving story comes from a doctor who attended one of our recent workshops. She shared that, following the training, she was able to successfully manage a complex transplant case, saving the life of a patient who had been waiting for years for an organ. Stories like this demonstrate the profound impact your support is having on saving lives worldwide.
Upcoming Activities: In the upcoming months, we will continue to offer workshops and awareness campaigns across more regions. Additionally, we are working closely with governments and healthcare institutions to improve policies and practices surrounding organ donation and transplantation, aiming to further increase access to life-saving treatments.
How Your Donation Helps: Your donations have allowed us to reach healthcare professionals in 113 countries and provide them with the necessary training to save lives. Thanks to you, we are building a global network of medical professionals committed to improving organ donation and transplantation practices, making a life-changing difference for countless patients.
Conclusion: We are deeply grateful for your ongoing support in helping us save lives and raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. With your help, we are making great strides in improving healthcare systems and saving lives around the world. Together, we can continue to ensure that more people have access to life-saving transplants and that organ donation becomes a standard practice worldwide.
Thank you for being a crucial part of this movement.
