Project Report: Rwanda - Save 1 million lives

Strengthening the future of organ donation and transplantation in Rwanda

Dear friends and supporters,

Thank you for your continued support of the project “Rwanda - Save 1 million lives.” Your contribution helps us keep moving forward with a long-term objective: to support the development of organ donation and transplantation knowledge in Rwanda and, ultimately, improve access to life-saving treatment for patients with organ failure.

Rwanda is home to millions of people, and chronic kidney disease represents a significant health burden. For many patients, access to transplantation is still limited or unavailable. This is why training healthcare professionals is such an important first step. A well-trained professional can become a local reference, share knowledge with colleagues, and help create the foundations for a future organ donation and transplantation program.

During this reporting period, DTI Foundation has continued working to keep this project active and ready for implementation. The project aims to provide one healthcare professional from Rwanda with access to specialized training in organ donation and transplantation through the TPM Advanced course, followed by a two-week internship in a Spanish reference center. This experience is designed to combine theoretical knowledge, practical tools, and direct exposure to a consolidated donation and transplantation system.

Although the project has not yet reached the funding level required to fully implement the training activity, we remain committed to its objective. We continue to promote the project, raise awareness about the need for equitable access to transplantation, and maintain the technical and academic structure needed to activate the training once the necessary support is secured.

The expected impact goes beyond one individual participant. The professional trained through this project will be able to bring back knowledge, experience, and practical recommendations to their hospital and healthcare team. This can help build local capacity, strengthen awareness among healthcare professionals, and contribute to the long-term development of donation and transplantation practices in Rwanda.

We are deeply grateful to every donor who has already supported this initiative. Each contribution brings us closer to making this training opportunity possible and to helping Rwanda take an important step toward improving the quality of life of patients who may one day benefit from transplantation.

Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us save lives through education, cooperation, and knowledge transfer.

With gratitude,
DTI Foundation
