The project overall goal is contributing to increased dignity and worth of elderly persons in the Republic of Moldova. The specific objectives are: 1. Facilitate access to instant and quality social-medical care and increased health, well-being and quality of life of 250 elderly. 2. Alleviated loneliness and social isolation of 50 elderly people through fellowship activities. 3. Develop and strengthen local capacities in providing and management of high quality social-medical services.
In the Republic of Moldova the vast majority of young population has migrated to the EU in search of a better life thus leaving the elderly unattended and vulnerable to poverty, low health standards and social exclusion. We, at the Caritas Moldova Charity Foundation, try by our project to offer our elderly beneficiaries not only a healthy and proper social service, but also to offer communication, support and moral aid to the ones that grew generations.
Our project helps elderly people to not feel isolated from society. Most often these people live alone and we offer them emotional and spiritual support. They share their problems with us and ask us to help lobby their interests to the state. We are looking for relatives and involve them in patients' care, thereby making them responsible and developing volunteerism. We often act as a coordination center between us, the patient and state structures, relatives from various remote villages.
The project offers aid to 205 beneficiaries monthly and through donations we envision keeping it running for long time further. A properly aided elder person will not only live decent senior years but also would be less susceptible to health problems, lowering the number of hospital visits, and the risk of death.
