Summary

In Uganda women and newborns die every day from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth that could have been prevented or treated. Poor quality care due to an insufficient number of skilled health workers and lack of basic equipment are leading causes of those complications. Within this project we will optimize access to safe birth, obstetric and neonatal care in the rural areas by provision of safe, comprehensive and simple lifesaving solutions and training of health care providers.

Challenge

Lack of access to safe maternity services contributes a range of adverse outcomes, from delayed treatment to disability and even death. With limited resources, it is not feasible to build and staff numerous static facilities that offer or meet the need for emergency obstetric and neonatal care. There is a huge lack of trained health workers and safe delivery tools in health facilities.

Solution

We will provide basic medical equipment and train the local health care providers on how to carry out safe childbirth, increasing the qualifications of medical personnel. We will provide women with birthing kits and safe childbirth and newborn care education. We will also equip medical facilities and provide mothers and newborns with the care they deserve.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term objective of the project is to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. Main goal: A world free of avoidable deaths of mothers and babies - where the location and economic status of women are irrelevant to access to the care they deserve.
