For more than 10 years, we have been working on improving the lives of more than 800 unwanted, homeless and injured dogs by rescuing them and providing them with the necessary care. We have been able to re-home around 350 dogs and cats over the same period of time. However, up until now, we have to accommodate our dogs in a lend space as we do not own a property. This scheme has become more complicated over time. We would like to be able to initiate a few projects for which we need our own space e.g. build our own shelter where we can focus on rescuing blind senior strays and combine it with our house for cats and kids project!
Without our own place our work has been limited in many ways as we have to turn away our back in many occasions to very difficult cases, because we are not able to shelter them in the current space. Also, we keep depending on the good heart of our landlord, but the long run of our foundation is not guaranteed and we want to change this. We want to be able to carry on with our mission for many, many years and being able to kick-off projects that respond to the needs of the most vulnerable ones. Those without a voice…those that as soon as they show signs of aging start disappearing from the streets without any trace…
With this extended project we look to consolidate our foundation so we can also increase our contribution on making the world a better place to live.
Although awareness towards the problem has increased in recent years, we still struggle to find private sponsorship for our cause, therefore we fully rely on our donors to cover all costs within our foundation. Although, we have been lucky to count on very committed donors, we know our future as foundation depends in big part on being able to guarantee that we have our own place.
This is our biggest challenge, as we need a significant amount of money for this. In other words, we need a miracle to buy our own piece of land. We really do!
By achieving this goal, we will be able to also carry on with our initial project “House for kids and cats”
Apart from materialize projects such as A Home for Cats and Kids, where we would like to work helping kids with special needs (palsy cerebral and autism) by bringing them together along with cats and dogs that have endured difficult conditions, we plan to focus on increasing the amount of dogs we can accommodate in our facilities, actually we are taking care of 22 rescued dogs. But not just as a place for them to "survive" but to provide them with all the necessary conditions to have the live any animal deserves and being able to properly prepare them for re-homing which will likely decrease the chances of any of them being abandoned in the future. We also want to focus on one of the most vulnerable population in the area: blind senior dogs as there is a great difficulty on re-homing this kind of dogs and at the same type they are great interacting with kids with special needs.
