Dear donor and friend, it’s not only dogs and cats looking for a Safe Haven, we have rescued and sheltered quite a zoo during the last years, like pidgeons, hen, sheep, oppossums. Our newcomer is Seppo, a rabbit, who has been free ranging on our property during the whole year. One day he just appeared, in company of a smaller rabbit, probably a female. Most certainly they went through the whole career, from being bought as miniature baby rabbits to being abandoned because they got oversized. They were so happy together, but shy with us humans. Apparently there was enough food for them, as grass, dandelions and clover, so we were not worried and let them enjoy their new cage-free life. But freedom has its price, and rabbits are preys for dogs and opposums, so one day the male showed up alone. Such a brave little guy!! The following months he spent out there, totally alone, always facing illness, hunger and death. Besides, we are having a wet year with a lot of rain, stormy days and freezy nights. A fortnight ago, he suddenly came closer, didn’t hide anymore and desperately asked to be rescued. He, being a rabbit, no longer wanted to be the Steppenwolf. He chose to surrender, hopped into the sheepfold, where Tola the hen was laying her morning egg, and just presented himself. “Hi folks, I’m Seppo and I already know you all”. We heard him and knew it was time to change his life. He lives in a big cage now, a former transport box of a Golden Retriever, enjoying safety and some fabulous snacks. He loves carrots, of course he does, but also apples, fresh herbs and every kind of lettuce. Actually he is in the hospital and the vets are trying to find out, if he is suffering a dental or a digestive disease, but he’ll be fine and ready for the next big steps in his life: being neutered and settle down in January. A nice family applied to adopt him and adapt a space in their garden for him and his future soul mates.
