From Crisis to Hope: Stories You Made Possible

By Zarah Almeida Rushworth | Project Leader

Big care in small moments. Every weigh-in counts.
Big care in small moments. Every weigh-in counts.

Impact at a Glance (July to September):

  • 16 new women and girls joined our program, 14 of whom are survivors of abuse.
  • Three (3) babies were born safely under our care.
  • 150 mothers and 139 children are currently supported across Phnom Penh and Battambang program offices.
  • No children are malnourished or underweight.
  • 38 mothers are currently employed.
  • 20 mothers are engaged in income-generating activities with the support of family m embers or caregivers/guardians.
  • Four (4) children are attending daycare in Phnom Penh

At Mother's Heart every number represents a woman or girl with a story worth telling. Most of the women and girls who joined us this quarter came from extremely vulnerable backgrounds, referred by partner NGOs, Commune Committees for Women and Children, Departments of Social Affairs, former beneficiaries, or community members.

A Young Girl's Path to Healing and Justice
This quarter, we began supporting Channa* who experienced abuse and trauma. At a very young age, she and her family are facing a painful situation. Yet unlike many families in Cambodia, where silence is often chosen and mediation or compensation accepted, her parents are courageously standing by her side. They are determined to seek justice. With the help of Mother's Heart and our community partners, the family is ensuring that their daughter has access to care, protection, emotional, and legal support, and other resources she needs to move forward. Her story is unfolding, but she no longer faces this journey alone. And with every gift we receive, we can continue walking alongside girls and families through both pain and hope.

A Mother Thriving with Family and Community Support
In Battambang province, Somanea*, one of the mother's we've been supporting, is now rebuilding her life in remarkable ways. With the encouragement and guidance of her own mother, her small home-business is steadily growing, giving her both financial independence and a renewed sense of dignity. She is healthier and stronger than ever, not only physically but emotionally as well, and her children are thriving under the care of their grandparents. Hers is a story of resilience, showing that when family and community step up, a woman can truly rebuild her life and flourish. At the same time, it is a demonstration of the generosity of our donors. Your support makes transformations like this possible, turning hope into reality for women and girls in crisis.

Why Your Support Maters Now More Than Ever
Behind every statistic is a woman or girl whose life is being rebuilt. With your support, crisis becomes hope, and hope becomes reality.

As we enter the last quarter of the year, we face a challenge: two of our major donors will conclude their support at the end of the year. To continue standing with women and girls in crisis pregnancy, we need your partnership more than ever.

The Passport to Purpose campaign is ongoing until September 12, 5PM EDT - please donate if you can. We'll share more details soon about GivingTuesday and our Year-end campaign, and hope you'll join us again in creating a lasting impact.

From all of us at Mother's Heart, thank you for being a part of this journey.

With gratitude,
Team Mother's Heart
