“Safe Park” program is open to all children from multiple communities in urban Lusaka and is popular with children and community leaders.

Program activities are designed to promote healing, normal development, and protection of children by using research and evidence-based interventions. These interventions are implemented by child and youth care workers trained in trauma management. Along with educational games and workshops, children have an opportunity to check out books and videos at community libraries which goes a long way in improving their reading and writing skills. Second, families are provided with long lasting insecticide treated nets to keep them safe from malaria. Third, more than 70 women received training in business skills. And finally, older children receive education on prevention of STI’s and HIV. A total of 988 children and more than 200 family members participated in program activities.

Mobile "Safe Park": Over the past two years, “Safe Park” has been mobile. This implies that children can play and learn at locations closer to their homes making it more convenient for parents as they need to travel a much shorter distance.

Impact: "Safe Park" activities, give children a sense of belonging, provide a safe space for children to express their feelings, teach them life skills, and find solutions to their problems. In 2023, more than 900 children and 200 family members participated in program activities.

Thank you for giving the gift of learning and normal development to children in Zambia.
