0 Safe Stoves for Darfur Refugee Mothers

Darfur is located in the western region of Sudan, covering approximately 170,000 square miles (440,000 square km).  Although Darfur is rich with natural resources, decades of neglect, underdevelopment and conflicts, left its inhabitants to suffer from severe food insecurity, disease outbreaks, and lack of basic social services.   These crises are especially exacerbated for the hundreds of thousand people, living in refugee camps in Chad. 

The Darfur Women Network (DWN) has experienced the most financial hardships due to COVID-19 since we partnered with GlobalGiving in 2013. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide financial support to make more safe stoves to protect women and girls from rape and from hostile attacks against females. However, we work collectively with refugees to dig more drinking water wells to tackle the issue of shortage of water in the camp despite dire needs for food, sanitation, and water.  Without your support, we will not be able to achieve our goals. Your endless support and donations will help us to meet an urgent need of soap and more water to enable the refugees to survive to stay sanitize during the pandemic. 

 This vulnerable population reflects the critical need for emergency interventions such as, raising community awareness about the pandemic, implementing quarantine and isolation spaces, distribution of personal protection equipment (PPEs), and providing them with basic necessities, such as, of food, clean drinking water, sanitation and health services.    

 Through our strong ties with refugee camps, Darfur Women Network (DWN) is engaged in community outreach to provide water, soap, and raise awareness to reduce the plight of COVID-19. 

 With your donation we were able to provide 1200 safe stoves to 1200 families in the camp. Your donations protected more than 1200 mothers and girls from rape and from the risk or hostile attacks. Also, reduced the trips to collect firewood by 75%, reduced the density of smoke during cooking process, and economically empowered women who make safe stoves in the camp.  Darfur refugees are in need of your help and contribution will make an impact on Darfur refugees in the Touloum camp in Chad to survive the COVID 19 outbreak.
