Update on Safe Stoves for Darfur Refugee Mothers
Dear Donors,
The Darfur Women Network (DWN) thanks you and appreciates your generous support and commitment to helping survivors of genocide in Darfur. Your donations have help DWN to implement the Safe Stoves Project for the benefit of the survivors of genocide in Darfur, who crossed the border to live away from violence in refugees’ camps in Chad.
By the end of this month, October, the rain is likely to stop. The safe stove production group will resume their activities post that. Now, they are ready to collect the ingredient to make safe stoves.
I would like to share with you an excited news about three young students from UK University. In January, I received email from Chris, and he mentioned about two of his athlete housemates, Dom and Ed. He said, they have been looking for a challenge for February this year and came across the story of Khadegah on the following GlobalGiving page:
https://www.globalgiving.org/learn/listicle/13-powerful-refugee-stories/,
They were keen to raise money for a cause and pledged to run, cycle and row the distance from Darfur, Sudan to Chad (420 Miles) and asked if there are any ongoing projects that would be in particular need of support at this time.
I was thrilled to have young students from another country keen to support our project. Chris and I communicated, then, they decided to raise awareness and money for Darfur refugees.
The fundraiser was in February. The Title of the challenge was “Distance Challenge: A Virtual Refugee's Journey from Sudan to Chad”
The goal was to raise money for supporting safe stoves and to raise awareness for the Darfur refugee crisis. They raised over $700, now we are ready to prepare for making safe stoves to protect refugee mothers from rape, hostile attacks, and smoke produces during cooking process.
Thank you GlobalGiving, our donors, and our wonderful students from UK university. To help us to achieve our goals.
I sincerely appreciate your support
Below are the UK University’s students who walked to support safe stoves project to protect Darfur refugees mothers and girls from rape and hostile attack against them when they walk to the forest to collect firewood to cook to their children.
