Safe Stoves Project Update

Our dear friends and supporters,

The refugees and Darfur Women Network, DWN, are grateful for your passionate support. With your donations, you protect over 1200 refugee mothers and their daughters from rape, hostile attacks, and house burning.

During rainy season, rain fall heavily and the most of the day weather is cloudy and high humid which is impossible for safe stoves to be dried.  our safe stoves production group had stopped the work until rainfall stops

However, this year, due to climb change, the rain fell late and heavily. As a result, the rain and the flood destroyed most of the houses in the camp. Because the houses were built from mud, wood, and straws.

Now, the refugees are in the need to tents and waterproof sheets to survive until the end of rainy season. Also, straws will be available after harvest of milt and sorghum.

Moreover, our safe stoves workplace and storage had melt due to heavy rain. We expected to resume our activities in November22.  Firstly, we need to be sure that the negative impact of heavy rainfall has tackled, then we will secure our workplace for our safe stoves group in order to resume their production.

this link reflects how life in Darfur refugees camp looks like. The women and their children broke my heart due to their struggles. Before, the conflict in Darfur, they had their stable life. They had their farms, livestock, and their stable financial status. They participated in local and national economy. Giving away to support others and paying tax were part of their duty.

 However, suddenly, their government supported with militia attack the villages using military weapons and air strike which resulted in death of 600 thousand of their family members and destroyed all the source of life. moreover, the survivors had fled barefoot to cross the board and have stayed in this camps for two decades in dare conditions.

Now, the U.S. Ambassador to Sudan, John Godfrey, has arrived to Sudan last week. Please contact him and demand help for the survivors of genocide, displaced and refugees from Darfur. Please, remember that Darfur women Network has Soap Making Project in South Darfur to benefit displaced families to gain income.
