Subject: Empowering Refugee Women through Safe Stoves – Progress Update

Dear GlobalGiving, Donors, and Supporters,

On behalf of the Darfur Women Network (DWN), I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing support. We are pleased to share a recent milestone in our Safe Stoves Program, which continues to empower refugee women while providing crucial protection for vulnerable families in the refugee camp in Chad.

Key Highlights:

On September 15, 2024, forty remarkable refugee women from Darfur, who are involved in the production of safe stoves, took a significant step in giving back to their community. These women, despite facing dire living conditions themselves, made a generous donation of 40 safe stoves—one for each refugee mother in need. This donation will help safeguard women and girls in the camp from the dangers of rape and hostile attacks that occur when cooking without safe stoves.

The Impact of Safe Stoves:

  • Protection and Safety: The safe stoves, designed to reduce smoke and fuel consumption, are essential for protecting women and girls from gender-based violence while cooking. By providing safer cooking methods, the stoves help to reduce the risk of exposure to dangerous situations in isolated areas of the camp.
  • Women as Social Change Agents: These 40 women, who earn a modest income by making and selling safe stoves to DWN for distribution, exemplify resilience. Living in small, locally built shelters, they faced the challenges of the rainy season but made a collective decision to continue stove production during this difficult time. Their determination not only fulfilled their promise to the community but also changed the perception of women’s roles in the camp, where traditionally women’s efforts are undervalued. Please, learn more about the courageous women,  https://youtu.be/tUEfotchfRc
  • Economic Empowerment: The women’s income from the production of safe stoves helps feed their children and improve their livelihoods. However, their generous donation demonstrates their deep sense of community solidarity and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Through their actions, these women are breaking cultural barriers and becoming recognized as key contributors to community progress.

A Step toward Sustainable Change:

This event highlights the transformative power of community-led initiatives. The women of Darfur Women Network are not only empowering themselves economically, but they are also creating safer environments for vulnerable families, fostering social change, and contributing to a more resilient community.

Your support has been instrumental in enabling us to continue providing resources and opportunities for these women. Together, we are making significant strides in achieving our shared goals of protection, empowerment, and sustainable development for refugee families.

Looking Forward:

As we move forward, we remain committed to scaling the Safe Stoves Program and other initiatives that empower women and protect vulnerable families. Your contributions will continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of refugees in Chad, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity and trust in our mission.

We will keep you updated on the progress of our projects and look forward to sharing more success stories in the future., here is the link to your project http://goto.gg/44316

Thank You:

To GlobalGiving, our donors, and supporters—thank you. Your dedication and generosity are helping us build a brighter, safer future for refugee women and their families. Together, we are creating lasting change.

Warm regards,

Mastora Bakhiet
