Summary

Studies proved that 14% of 341,690 people have access to safe drinking water ,16% to latrines in the district. There is the incidence of cholera, diarrhea every dry season when unsafe water sources get dry and polluted. Lives are lost, poor people spend a lot for treatment. Women and girls are abused in fetching.Pupils dont do well in school for distant fetching.The project will construct 70 water points and 200 latrines to reduce risk of new outbreaks of health epidemics for 4500 people.

Challenge

There are over 4500 inhabitants experiencing outbreak of cholera , diarrhea and water related diseases epidemics in every dry season as their unsafe water sources get dry and polluted. This leads to loss of lives and families spend resources to find treatment for their sick families. Economic activities are affected. School children perform poorly exams due to time spent to fetch water. Women ans girls are abused in fetching water from distant and unsafe sources. economic activities drop.

Solution

The project with the active participation and kind contribution of inhabitants will construct 70 water stand points and 200 latrines in ten villages in Kambia District. This will solve the problem of out breaks of cholera and diarrhea. School children will spend more time in school for better performance. Expenditure on treatment will minimize . Sexual abuse on women and girls reduced. Communities will become healthy and work more to become self sufficient with better livelihoods an dignity

Long-Term Impact

Eradication of annual out breaks of cholera, diarrhea and water related diseases for 4500 people. Entrepreneurs and investors will come to the villages and stay without fear.By then financial, social and economic growth is assured. Families will spend their resources to educate their dependents than treating water diseases.Sexual based violence suffered by women and girls will stop. The training given to youth and women to maintain, operate and sustain the facilities. Safe environment.
