Building a Resilient Future for Beekeeping

Project Renitantely continues to empower beekeepers in the face of growing environmental challenges.

2025 was a particularly difficult year in the Southeast, with droughts, floods, cyclones, and wildfires having a significant impact. A large reduction in bee forage was seen, alongside damage to 54 hives resulting in colony abscondment. However, thanks to your generosity, we have been able to keep moving forward in a positive way.

Despite the obstacles faced, between July 2024 to June 2025, a total of 1,088.5 litres of honey were harvested, representing the highest harvest per season within the Project. Furthermore, 53 beekeepers and their families recently completed financial literacy training, leading to the creation of six new savings groups. These saving circles are already creating safety nets for families and giving beekeepers the confidence to reinvest in their futures, increasing resilience.

Looking ahead for the coming year Project Reinitantely is expanding to three new communities, sharing skills and growing independence for even more families.

Within Phase II of the project, SEED will be equipping beekeepers with tools, equipment, and both entrepreneurial and technical training, with the aim of boosting honey quality and creating value-added products like beeswax crafts. Information gathered through key informant interviews on forage availability, pest management, and market dynamics will be consolidated to continuously inform and strengthen project activities over the coming year.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we are helping Madagascar’s beekeepers build strength not just for today, but for the future.
