Program Updates
Underground TechSheroes continues with 124 students across 2 courses.
66 students learning basic IT skills, graduated in June after mastering the IT and Women’s Empowerment curriculum. Now, 80 new students have begun the IT portion of this program!
12th grader, Soghra, had this to say about the Underground TechSheroes program.
“First of All, I would like to thank all those who have provided computer courses for us, Afghan girls so that we do not lose our hope for progress and development. I am very happy that I participated in this program. And it was very effective for me because I didn't know anything about computers and I didn't know how to use it. Now I can do many things with the computer. This increases my self-confidence and self-esteem. My education is up to the 12th grade because we learned computers theoretically in school. And we didn't have many facilities. I only knew how to turn on and off and basic computer operations. But today, apart from having a lot of information about computers and office programs, I have also learned how to use them, providing me a better job opportunity.
The women's empowerment program also had a very positive and good effect on me. I learned about my rights and those around me, and how to communicate and interact with society. I learned not to be silent and careless against oppression and injustice. For example, just last week, I witnessed a girl beaten by her sister. Because of the conversations we had in the women empowerment program, I felt that I should not ignore this issue and not be indifferent or careless. So, I talked to the girl and made her understand that she should not allow anyone to treat her like that, and she gradually agreed with me and stood up against the injustice that was done to her. And she got good results by talking to her family.
In short, this three-month process was very useful and effective for me and all the girls.”
