In 2024, over 7,000 disadvantaged children and young adults across Vietnam dirrectly benefitted from saigonchildren's programmes. Through the generous support of GlobalGiving donors and others across the world, the organization continued to address systemic barriers to education by focusing on infrastructure, financial stability, and professional readiness. This investment represents more than a financial figure; it is a commitment to ensuring that every child has the physical and academic resources necessary to transition from a cycle of poverty toward a life of self-sufficiency.
Through the School Building and Learning Environment Programme, the organization focused on creating high-standard facilities that foster safety and comfort. In 2024, this programme delivered 16 new or renovated classrooms and four computer rooms, ensuring that students in underserved regions have access to modern learning tools. Beyond traditional academics, the program prioritized essential health and literacy infrastructure, providing 791 children with clean toilet blocks and 1,379 with new book corners. These structural improvements serve as a vital foundation, allowing students to focus on their education within an environment that nurtures their potential.
The Child Development Scholarship Programme provides a critical resource for families facing acute financial instability, supporting 1,864 students from primary through university levels. By removing the immediate economic pressure of tuition and supplies, the program secured an exceptional 97.7% school year completion rate. Recognizing that education cannot occur in a vacuum of basic needs, the initiative also distributed over 19,000 kilograms of rice, managed 9 urgent health cases, and provided over 70 bicycles and 100 laptops. The comprehensive support ensures that a family's temporary hardship does not result in a child’s permanent withdrawal from the school system.
Economic independence remains the ultimate metric of success within the Getting Ready For Work Programme. This programme prepared young adults for the professional world, resulting in an 88% employment rate for its graduates in 2024. In addition to technical training, 369 students received psychosocial counseling to build the emotional resilience required for the workforce. A new achievement in 2024 was the launch of a 3-year project to enhance capacity of 220 disadvantaged students aged 18–25 at Lý Tu Trong College in Ho Chí Minh City, aiming to help them complete vocational training and transform their futures. In 2024, over 70 students already received comprehensive support in terms of tuition fee, access to English learning opportunities, skill workshops, etc.
Finally, the Special Needs Education Programme addressed the often-overlooked obstables of children with neurodevelopmental differences, providing specialized early intervention to 1,286 direct beneficiaries including children, parents, practitioners and teachers. By ensuring that 100% of children with autism in the program received tailored developmental plans, saigonchildren provided a standard of care that is often inaccessible to low-income families. To ensure long-term systemic impact, the program also trained 1,286 practitioners, teachers, and parents, expanding the local capacity to support children with diverse needs across five provinces. Through these coordinated efforts, the 2024 results demonstrate a disciplined and highly effective approach to social mobility through education.
The progress achieved throughout 2024 is a testament to the collective impact of a dedicated donor community. With your support, saigonchildren has successfully provided over 7,000 children and young adults with a measurable pathway toward self-sufficiency. Whether by funding the School Building and Learning Environment Programme, sustaining the Child Development Scholarship Programme, equipping youth through the Getting Ready For Work Programme, or providing essential care via the Special Needs Education Programme, these contributions have established a critical foundation for social mobility. Saigonchildren sincerely thank dedicated donors and supporters for your continued trust and professional collaboration. Your support remains the fundamental catalyst for this work, ensuring that the barriers to education are dismantled and that disadvantaged children across Vietnam are empowered to achieve long-term independence.
