Covid-19 & The Need for Online Learning Resources

The outbreak of the coronavirus has impacted the world in a profound way. There has been loss of lives all around the world with heathcare works dedicating their time and efforts in taking care of the sick. It has been a very difficult time for everyone all around the world. Many countries have been pushed into recession, shools have closed, many countries still on lockdown and many borders closed for incoming and outgoing flights.

Our students at the Shinning Light School have been at home since schools were ordered to close in March 2020 and there is no sign of when students will be asked to return to schools. Many students in Nigeria and around the world have resorted to Online Learning with teachers conducting classes through online mediums such as Zoom Meetings. This has worked well for schools that are set up for that. Adoption of online learning is dependent on both consumer who are the students and the customer who are the parents. In addition, there needs to be adequate internet connections for the students in their homes and for the teachers at school. Currently, we do have minimal internet service used when students have to watch online resource videos with their teachers.

Unfortunately, in our case, our students have not been able to benefit from online learning. At the school, we have just a couple of computers/laptops and do not have tablets or Labtops for our students or teachers. Many of our students do not own a computer or labtop. This reality has exposed one of the areas we need to work on to ensure our students get more access to technology and can benefit from the use of it in the future. A labtop/computer drive will be completed in the  future by asking for donations of used/new labtops/computers. We will also be contacting telecommunication companies to seek their assistance in getting subsidized rates for internet connection for our school to give us unlimited internet access for students to be able to access online resources even during regular face to face learning in the classroom.

We are thankful that our students & teachers are safe at home with their families. We continue to pray for healing across the world, for comfort to all the families impacted, and an end to the pandemic.  Thank you for your continued support of the Shinning Light School.
