Together for Sustainable Solutions

By Margaret Wambui | Project Leader

Executive Summary:

This project report outlines the successful partnership between Hifadhi Organization (HAO) and the Port Orchard Rotary Club, facilitated by a site visit to Natan in East Pokot. The collaborative efforts of these organizations, along with contributions from the GlobalGiving platform, have enabled the initiation of the sand dam project in Natan.

Introduction:

In pursuit of sustainable water management and community development, Hifadhi Organization organized a site visit to Natan in East Pokot. The Port Orchard Rotary Club, representing a committed group of individuals dedicated to community service, actively participated in the visit. This collaboration marked a significant step towards addressing water scarcity in the region through the construction of a sand dam.

Partnership Success:

The partnership between Hifadhi Organization and the Port Orchard Rotary Club was pivotal in securing the initial funds required for the sand dam project in Natan. The Port Orchard Rotary Club made a generous contribution, which, when combined with donations received from the GlobalGiving platform, provided the necessary financial support to kick start the project.

Project Initiation:

With the funds received, HAO initiated the sand dam project in Natan. The project is currently a work in progress, with the following key activities undertaken:

Groundbreaking: The funds enabled HAO to break ground for the sand dam construction, marking the official commencement of the project.

Tunnel Drilling: Substantial funds were allocated for drilling tunnels, a critical aspect of the sand dam construction process to ensure effective water retention.

Material Procurement: Funds were utilized for the purchase of essential materials such as timber and cement, crucial for constructing a durable and sustainable sand dam.

Water Procurement: Financial resources were dedicated to securing water for the construction process, ensuring a steady supply for various project activities.

Labor Compensation: Casual workers and constructors involved in the project received fair compensation, contributing to local employment and fostering community involvement.

Challenges and Mitigation:

While progress is being made, challenges are an inevitable part of any project. HAO is actively addressing these challenges and implementing effective mitigation strategies to ensure the smooth continuation of the project.

Conclusion:

The collaborative efforts of Hifadhi Organization, the Port Orchard Rotary Club, and the GlobalGiving platform have set the foundation for a transformative project in Natan. The construction of the sand dam is progressing, and its successful completion will bring lasting benefits to the community.

Hifadhi Organization expresses gratitude to the Port Orchard Rotary Club and all contributors on GlobalGiving Platform for their generous support. The commitment and dedication demonstrated by the partners involved ensure the continued success of the sand dam project in Natan.
