Sargassum Sinking Innovation, Project #69374
How the project is going
We are making real progress in moving this project from concept to field validation.
Over the past period, our work has focused on turning years of feasibility research into a practical next phase: testing whether offshore interception and sinking of sargassum can help address two problems at once, the ecological and economic damage caused by massive sargassum influxes in the Caribbean, and the urgent need for scalable carbon removal solutions. Climate Cleanup has been developing this direction with partners including Oceanus International and Climate Foundation. Earlier project communication also marked the transition into a data quantification phase, which reflects where the work is now: generating the evidence needed to assess climate impact, environmental safety, and operational feasibility.
