Every year 1 million people are added to the list of those to receive an organ transplant. Sadly less than 10% of the surgical procedures needed globally are performed. As such millions of desperate families around the world are praying right now for an organ to become available before it is too late. To further complicate the problem, even when an organ match is found, there is a huge and growing worldwide shortage of health care professionals trained in both organ donation and transplantation.
DTI will enable miracles by training 5 medical professionals from developing countries. Comprising the world's subject matter experts on organ and tissue transplantation, DTI implements global projects designed for each country's unique needs and trains medical professionals at its state of the art facilities in Barcelona. DTI sends teams to several countries, transferring knowledge critical to develop local and sustainable medical expertise, organ donations and surgical competencies.
