Recent nutrition screenings by Siphilile Maternal and Child Health identified 362 malnourished children under five in Kwaluseni, Ludzeludze, Lobamba Lomdzala, Manzini North, and Manzini South. Many come from food-insecure households and families struggling with poverty. Some are children of young mothers working in the Matsapha industrial area with limited support. Without timely intervention, these children face poor growth, illness, developmental delays, and increased risk of death.
Siphilile Maternal and Child Health will support 362 malnourished children through nutrition assessments, growth monitoring, fortified food supplements, caregiver education, breastfeeding support, and home visits by trained Mentor Mothers. Caregivers will receive practical training on child feeding and nutrition using locally available foods. Regular follow-up will help children recover, improve growth, and reduce future malnutrition.
The project will improve the health and nutrition of 362 vulnerable children while equipping caregivers with skills in child feeding, hygiene, and food preparation. Improved nutrition will reduce illness, support healthy growth and development, and lower the risk of preventable child deaths. Through trained Mentor Mothers and community support networks, the project will strengthen families' ability to prevent and manage malnutrition long after the project ends.
