Kidney failure is rising among Nigerian children, yet lifesaving dialysis and transplant care remain out of reach for poor families. Studies show renal disorders account for nearly 4% of child hospital admissions in Nigeria, with high mortality due to late treatment. This project will provide dialysis, transplant surgery, medications, and recovery support for 50 vulnerable children - preventing avoidable deaths and restoring hope.
Pediatric kidney disease in Nigeria is increasing, with acute kidney injury affecting many hospitalized children and mortality rates reported as high as 20-30% in severe cases. Specialized treatment is limited to major hospitals such as Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and National Hospital Abuja. Families must cover dialysis, surgery, and post-surgery medications costs most low income families cannot afford. When funds end, treatment stops.
Empower Future Initiative will sponsor complete kidney care for 50 children, including dialysis, transplant surgery, laboratory testing, anti-rejection medication, accommodation, nutrition, and follow-up monitoring. By removing financial barriers, children can complete uninterrupted treatment under certified nephrologists in accredited teaching hospitals, increasing survival rates and long-term recovery outcomes.
This project will help 50 children survive kidney failure and return to school and normal childhood. Survivors avoid lifelong disability and premature death, while families are protected from catastrophic medical debt. Over time, the initiative will strengthen equitable access to pediatric transplant care and reduce preventable child mortality across low-income Nigerian communities.
