María is a 5-year-old girl who lives in Itagüí, a municipality located in the south of the Aburrá Valley. In September 2021 she came to our Children's Hospital after being referred for a very strong flu that caused her to have difficulty breathing. After some tests she was admitted to the Special Care Unit due to a collapsed lung and was later diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a type of cancer that usually affects mostly children and develops mainly in the bones.
From the moment she was admitted to our Children's Hospital she has received medical treatment from our specialists and her recovery has been very encouraging. Marcela, her mother, tells us that in spite of how difficult her diagnosis is, they have been able to cope with it as a family and have given Maria all the love she needs.
A few days ago Maria had surgery for the extraction of the tumor in which they also removed 3 ribs, according to the medical report there are still 3 months of chemotherapy to finish the treatment. Maria and her mother are very grateful to our Hospital for the attention they have received, they are looking forward to the remaining days to finish the treatment and to ring the bell as a symbol that she recovered from cancer and that she will be able to resume her life with her friends from preschool.
With your donations you help us so that children like Maria can continue to receive comprehensive care, allowing them a speedy and successful recovery from the hands of our team of professionals.
