Save a School with Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT)

Anuradha (name changed) is studying in 7th standard at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School lives with her two sisters and parents.  Her two sisters are studying in the same school in 4^th and 6^th std. respectively. Her father is a house painter and mother is working as a helper in the same school. Her father is an alcoholic and mother is struggling to raise three daughters. Being an elder daughter of an illiterate parents Anuradha is self-motivated learner and is very clever and very good in her studies. She wants to become a doctor. She likes Tamil and English language. She likes to play and draw in her leisure time. She behaves very well with her teachers and friends. she is very regular to school, attentive in her studies and wants to continue her education.

The year has come to an end  and all the children will go to the next class in the new academic year which starts in June 2019. We continuously conduct various extracurricular programs and provide food in the school to motivate them to come to school regularly. And hence we do the following:

1.  Make a daily protein mix which has all the vital nutrients and vitamins that the growing children need, as most of the children come to school without having breakfast. We have measured the height and weight of all the children this year to assess and analyse the impact of nutritious protein powder. In this year we have started giving them biscuits with the protein mix.
2. Celebrated birthdays of the children at the end of each month. The children cut a huge cake in front of their friends, school teachers and eat it in school along with potato chips. Well qualified yoga professionals of Sri Krishna Wellness, Yoga and Cultural Centre conduct classes to improve overall health and their concentration power. Our regular volunteers’ conduct Elementary English reading, writing and spoken classes for all the children.
3. Conducted students’ assessments at the end of the academic year to find out their progress.
4. We along with a very dedicated group of volunteers from a company Faurecia participated in the Saraswathi puja celebrations.
5. Graduating class of this year was given a send off with food and 1kg cake
6. We will organize summer classes for children to teach and engage them in activities during the summer holidays. Summer classes help the children to develop skills while experiencing a new and exciting learning environment.

We appeal for more funds through global giving, to help Anuradha and children like her so that the poverty-stricken parents and their underprivileged children are attracted by the facilities and amenities of the school and come back to school regularly.
