Save a School with Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT)

Aishwarya started coming to the school along with her elder sister when she was 3 years old to escape physical abuse from her father. She is  now in the 4th standard and she is the second in the family of three girls . Aishwarya  is good at studies and she helps her younger sister as well. She is from a very poor family and often they do not have enough food to eat. She is very regular to school and so the teachers decided to employ her mother who takes the leftover food from the school midday meal scheme for her children to eat at  night.

These children like Aishwarya are first generation learners, so they do not have the inclination or feel the need  to come to school. The staff and volunteers of  Ashwini Charitable Trust(ACT)  work hard to motivate the students to come to the school regularly.

• We give the children school essentials like books and stationery, 2 pairs of school shoes and socks, sweaters and school bags.
• Every day we have at least 3 to 4 dedicated volunteers from India and abroad spend time with the children to help them with English speaking, reading and writing skills using a tablet and  story books , teach Basic computer skills and conduct Science experiments
• 60 Volunteers from a reputed Management College spent 3 days, 20 hours each by interacting with the children one child with one volunteer, conducting English, Mathematics, drawing and painting fun activities for them. They also organized  a exciting sports day with many races for all the children and later distributed medals to the top three winners.
• Volunteers from the Sri Krishna Wellness Centre taught Yoga to all the students and teachers on World Yoga Day, 21^st of June.
• Since most children are not fortunate to celebrate their birthdays at home, we started celebrating them once every month at the end of the month. The ones whose birthdays fall in that particular month get on stage, cut the cake and blow out candles in front of the whole school singing for them.
