Rhinos in Tanzania have faced severe population decline due to poaching and habitat destruction since the 1970s. In the 1970s, Tanzania had more than 10,000 black rhinos, but numbers dropped because of illegal hunting and poaching. Today, 2026 there is a population to over 200 black rhinos. Rhinos are mainly found in protected areas such as the Serengeti,Ngorongoro Conservation Area .This project focuses to long-term rhino protection, rescue rhinos, habitat restoration for future generations.
Rhino poaching remains one of the biggest threats to wildlife conservation in Tanzania. Illegal trade in rhino horns has caused massive population decline over the decades. Many rhino habitats have also been reduced due to human activities and environmental changes. Limited conservation funding affects ranger patrols, monitoring equipment, and community education programs. Without stronger conservation support, rhinos remain at high risk of extinction in Tanzania
The project will increase anti-poaching patrols in rhino conservation areas across Tanzania. Community education programs will teach local people the importance of protecting wildlife and tourism resources. Modern tracking technology and monitoring systems will help rangers protect rhinos more effectively. Habitat restoration activities will improve food and water availability for rhinos in protected ecosystems. Partnerships with conservation organizations and local communities in longer terms.
