Dear Supporter,
Lujain was only 12 days old when she stopped breathing properly.
Her tiny body turned blue.
A violent cough shook her fragile chest.
Her breaths became scattered and weak.
At that age, a baby cannot cry for help with words.
But the color of her face said everything: danger was close.
She was rushed from the emergency department to the Intensive Care Unit at one of SEMA’s maternity and pediatric hospitals in Syria. Within minutes, a full medical team was working to save her life.
Tests and chest imaging revealed the diagnosis: aspiration pneumonia — a severe infection that had invaded her tiny lungs and made it painfully difficult to breathe.
For 48 critical hours, Lujain lay surrounded by machines and wires, fighting silently. Her mother never left her side. Every second felt like a lifetime.
Because the ICU was equipped.
Because trained specialists were present.
Because support like yours made it possible.
Lujain began to stabilize.
She was gradually weaned off mechanical ventilation and transitioned to CPAP respiratory support as her lungs regained strength. Slowly, breath by breath, life returned to her tiny body.
This is not just a medical case.
It is a reminder that a newborn’s life can change within hours.
That intensive care equipment is not a luxury.
That trained medical staff are not optional.
That access to urgent care is the difference between life and loss.
Your support keeps these incubators running.
Your generosity keeps oxygen flowing.
Your compassion gives newborns a chance to grow beyond their first fragile days.
Today, Lujain is breathing because critical care was available when she needed it most.
The next emergency could happen at any moment.
Your donation today could be the breath that saves a life just beginning.
Thank you for standing on the frontlines of life.
With gratitude,
SEMA Team
