Summary

Tanzania loses an estimated 1,500 people to rabies every year. Half of the victims are children under the age of 15. 99% of dogs bite victims died. Rabies Cases at Mkalama district has been reported regularly and most affected is the children. This project will enable the vaccinations to 15,230 dogs and safeguard 188,733 life of Mkalama residents among the are children who are more vulnerable. It will also serve innocent dogs which are killed with no prove that they caries rabies virus.

Challenge

Rabies Cases at Mkalama district has been reported regularly and most affected is the children. During the eruption residents locks their kids in as they are terrified by rabic dogs. Innocent dogs are killed for the reasons that they might be carrier of the rabies virus. This project will enable the vaccinations to 15,230 dogs and safeguard 188,733 life of Mkalama residents who are at the risk of getting rabies, among them are children who are more vulnerable.

Solution

In collaboration with local government, this project will lead massive vaccination to each and every canine in this locality. SCD project will also hold multiple discussion and training to the community members and school kids for awareness creation purpose. SCD will make sure that the local government is enacting lows that lead every canine owners is responsible for vaccination and treatment in the future.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 50 local leaders on how best they can incorporate community members in taking care of their canine to avoid rabies and other diseases. Canine low will be enacted at the local level so that everyone can be responsible. 200 Women leaders will be educated on how they can handle the situation in case of rabies eruption. This women will be ambassadors into their locality in educating others in their community. 300 Motorcycle riders will be involved in the campaign.
