Summary

"I intentionally cut my throat so I bleed to death because it was of no use living anymore" said Ama, a 23-year young woman rescued from attempted suicide in July 2019. Sadly, Ama was abandoned by the father at age 3. Her single mother couldn't provide for her daily subsistence. So, she left home at age 12 to fend for herself. Like her Mom, thousands of single mothers in rural Ghana struggle daily to care for their children due to poverty. You're their only hope; put a smile on their face.

Challenge

Thousands of single mothers in rural areas of Ghana struggle daily to care for their children due to poverty and difficulties of single parenting. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened their plights even more! Consequently, the children of these poor single mothers become victims of child slavery, child trafficking, and child marriage. Interestingly, each poor single mother is willing to work and earn income to care for their children. A little assistance is all that they require to become better.

Solution

Gladly, 200 poor single mothers across 20 deprived rural communities in Ghana will be provided emergency food supply, medical care, training in livelihood skills and seed capital to set up a micro-venture. For instance, all the 200 beneficiaries will be trained in locally made hand sanitizers, liquid soap, nose mask, Veronica Bucket and more. Fortunately, these products have huge market demand even in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. They shall be assisted to set-up micro-venture and trade.

Long-Term Impact

Hundreds of families will be preserved and empowered to work themselves out of extreme poverty. Moreso, the hitherto vulnerable children in those families will be protected and given opportunity to enjoy better education, health care and childhood. Eventually, they will have brighter future thereby breaking generational vicious cycle of poverty in their families and communities. Human suffering and violence against children such as child labour, child trafficking and early marriage will reduce.
