This project provides support and a refuge for vulnerable children in Rwanda to keep them off the streets and have hope for their future through educational assistance, personal development, and a program to help parents.
The Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda killed nearly a million people and left many subsequent wounds. One of them is children who end up on the streets, whether they were orphaned or live in poor families that are fraught with dysfunction and conflict. Root Foundation gets these kids off the street by providing a safe place, support, education, love and life skills that give them an opportunity to thrive and become valuable community members.
We get children off the streets by spending time with them to build character, confidence and self-reliance that will transform their lives. We welcome them at our Children's Center six days a week, and we visit them outside. We offer personal development such as music, sports, and life skills; education by covering school expenses and teaching basic skills; and parental support through counseling and helping mothers to earn income.
The project will move 300 vulnerable kids off the street, helping them fulfill their potentials and grow up to become valuable community members. Their ability to thrive and succeed will contribute to raising the entire community out of poverty.
