Summary

The ocean is in a critical state, and it's time to take action. Our team in Australia has come up with an amazing concept to help our oceans recover. By using recycled materials from the building trade, we create panels with different textures that secure along sea walls below and above the ocean. These panels create a mini eco-system where marine life can grow and thrive. We've already seen successful sites in Australia, and we want to take it global. However, we need your help with donations!

Challenge

We aim to revolutionise the way we think about building in the ocean. In order to improve the ecological sustainability of new and existing foreshore developments we must ensure that no new development proceeds without first considering how it can benefit both humans and nature. By combining ecological and engineering knowledge, Living Seawalls is committed to developing adaptable and affordable mechanisms to bring life back into marine developments across the world.

Solution

Our project has developed an innovative solution to the problem of marine construction. By blending ecological concepts and engineering in creative design, we are reviving our increasingly urbanized oceans. Their panels are designed to reduce environmental impacts, benefit marine life, enhance awareness about the marine environment, and contribute to clean oceans. Our panels surface increase the habitat area available for colonisation and growth of seaweeds, shellfish and other marine life

Long-Term Impact

The modular system is the result of more than 20 years of scientific research. Panels, mimicking the habitat features of natural shoreline ecosystems, are fitted in scalable mosaics onto artificial structures. We are building more available habitat area for colonisation and growth of seaweeds, shellfish and other marine life which in turn add protection to marine life from high temperatures and predators. We are tackling our ocean crisis long term!
