In our last report, we told you the sad news of the passing of our male Sumatran tiger, Avigdor due to kidney failure. We now have only our female tigress, Hannah, and are awaiting a new male to continue this breeding and conservation program.
The Sumatran Tiger conservation program is adminstered by the European Association of Zoos Endangered Species Program and our request for a new male has been submitted to the international committee who monitor the international studbook and decide - based on genetic suitability, available facilities and transfer arrangements – which animals will be moved between participating institutions. This process is likely to take some months and we hope to be able to provide you with a more exciting report next time.
Thank you for your continued support of this program which is trying to ensure the future of the Sumatran tiger species (only around 400 remain).
